Dolly the Sheep

A - … No one knows for sure why Dolly grew ill so young but one thing is certain: there’s a lot more to learn about cloning.

B - … Dolly lived in Scotland all her life. She grew up normally and had lambs. However, on 14 February 2003, six years after she was born, scientists at the Roslin Institute decided to put her down because she had a serious lung illness.

C - … What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name Dolly? Probably the world’s most famous cloned sheep. But how much do you know about her?

D - … Sheep normally live between 10 to 16 years so Dolly was quite young when she died. Scientists believe that the fact that Dolly’s genetic material came from a six year old sheep made her age faster than normal.

E - … Dolly was Scottish. She was born in the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh on 5 July 1996 and was named after the popular country singer Dolly Parton. However, the world didn’t find out about her until early the following year. Since she was the first mammal cloned from an adult cell, her birth was big news all over the world.
